Babington space heater first test run

This is my Babington space heater. This is its first test run. It gives plenty of heat! My shed is 6×5 meters and it will heat it up to 20 degree Celsius when its around freezing outside. I can regulate the amount off heat with the air pressure. Normal setting is around 3 bar air pressure. It will go to 7 bar but then the 55 gallon barrels will be red hot! (not a good thing) It runs on all kinds off waste oil. For the first start the oil is preheated by the french-fryer to approx. 70 degree Celsius. Then I light it with a gas torch. Inside the barrel there is a coil off copper tubing that will heat the oil when the burner is running. So the fryer is switched off when the burner is running. The nozzle is from a regular oil burner so its pretty small. That is why you need a very fine stream off oil over the top end of the nozzle. Otherwise the oil will flood the nozzle and the flame goes out, or the oil droplets get to big and the burner will smoke more. As you can see in the video with this setting the burner will not produce visible smoke or odour.

I abandoned the the babington burner completely. To complicated and uses to much energy (pre heating the oil) I’m designing/building a pot burner now that uses less energy. The only power required is some 220V for a fan. I did some trials with it and it looks promising. hen finished I upload a video of it.

    Marcel,

PS: what details do you need? maybe I can explain the video a bit.

    Regards,

    Marcel.
